The NSW Government has launched a comprehensive water directory designed specifically for water educators to enable them in turn to assist individuals and businesses how to best conserve water.
This directory, which is available online, will become hopefully the ‘Yellow Pages’ for water educators across the State.
The new Water Education Resource Directory was launched to coincide with inaugural Water for Life Forum held on September 19, 2007 in central Sydney. The conference was opened by the Minister for Water Utilities Nathan Rees.
The Directory will enable anyone to search for training and research tools they can use in turn to educate their community, their workplace, or even their next door neighbour or friend.
All people have to do is simply search for the type of educational tool or the audience that they are seeking to educate, for example, schoolchildren, and the topic such as stormwater harvesting or recycling.
They will then be provided the most appropriate resources and links to access that information.
The State’s first Water for Life Forum for water educators was held as one of a range of strategies the NSW Government is implementing to increase community education programs being delivered across Sydney to play their part in securing our water for life, as part of the Metropolitan Water Plan.
Over 100 representatives from state, local and community organisations participated in the forum to look at new ways to educate the community and set the priorities for water education over the coming years.
A draft Action Plan for all metropolitan water education for 2007-2011 was also launched at the Forum.
The plan sets out the strategy for how we will all work together over the coming years to engage the community in securing our water for life. Invitations are sought on the draft plan, which can be completed online, faxed or mailed.
