The greater Sydney region faces a challenge – sharing limited water resources to balance competing demands for water.
The water requirements of households, business, industry and agriculture, all need to be considered, while providing water for river health.
Water Sharing Plans that share water between users and the environment have been developed for most water use in NSW.
The NSW Government is now developing a Greater Metropolitan Region Water Sharing Plan under the Water Management Act 2000. This plan will provide the legal framework for the water sharing aspects of the Metropolitan Water Plan.
The draft Water Sharing Plan, when completed, will be exhibited for public comment before being published.
