Coordinating and integrating water education
The role of the Water for Life Education Program is to work to coordinate water education across the greater Sydney metropolitan region.
Key projects include:
- the collaborative development of the Water Education Plan for greater Sydney 2008-2012
- formation of a cross-sectoral capacity building group to coordinate professional development and support for water educators
- partnerships to deliver innovative water education projects to engage priority sectors in the community in saving water.
Education is also an integral component of the implementation of many of the large range of initiatives underway through the Metropolitan Water Plan. For example, the greywater guidelines include a significant education program to ensure the community is aware of the changes that now make it easier to re-use greywater in the home.
The Water for Life Education Program is overseen by the inter-agency Metropolitan Water Education Group with the advice of the Water for Life Reference Group. Membership of the reference group includes:

- Sydney Water
- Sydney Catchment Authority
- NSW Department of Environment, Climate Change & Water
- Australian Water Association
- NSW Council on Environmental Education
- Local Government & Shires Association
- Australian Association of Environmental Education
- Nature Conservation Council of NSW
