Water is a high priority for the people of greater Sydney. Research shows that around half of all Sydney residents think that water is one of the most important issues facing people living in our region today. This presents a unique opportunity for local government, non government organisations, the NSW Government and the community to work together toward a sustainable water future.
The Water Education Plan for greater Sydney 2008-2012 (Water Education Plan) aims to provide the framework to coordinate all water education across greater Sydney. It sets the priority objectives and strategies to maximise the contribution of education as one of the many strategies to secure Sydney’s water supplies. The Water Education Plan has been developed for those working in water management, education or sustainability and also provides a commitment to training, resources and support.
The Water Education Plan has been collaboratively developed by representatives from local government, non government organisations and the NSW Government as an initiative of the NSW Government’s Water for Life Education Program. Its development has been based on the priorities and needs of stakeholders, the community and the environment. The Plan also contributes to the priority actions identified in Learning for Sustainability, the NSW Environmental Education Plan.
The Water Education Plan sets out the:
