There are many reasons why nominating a project for awards is important and they include:

gaining public recognition for your organisation

Teach Sustainability & National Award - The Faculty of the Built Environment, University of New South Wales in partnership with the United Nations Environment Program is seeking nominations for the National Teach Sustainability Award. The aim of this award program is to encourage educators to contribute to the non-profit sustainability education resource sharing hub www.teachsustainability.com.au and provide a world class resource for the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development.	28 November, 2008	TBA

Enviro Inspiro! - A Competition for Secondary Students - The New South Wales Student Representative Council (NSWSRC) invites secondary schools to showcase their successful student-led environment projects. Create a DVD or video, showcasing your school environment project.	TBA	TBA
Eureka Prize - The Australian Museum Eureka Prizes are Australia’s premier award scheme for outstanding science. Presented annually by the Australian Museum, the prizes reward excellence in the fields of research & innovation, science leadership, school science and science journalism & communication.	May	August
Every Drop Counts Business Program Awards - Sydney Water is helping businesses set a new direction on innovative water saving. The program awards recognise organisations and individuals who achieve significant water use reductions and demonstrate a commitment to water conservation.	TBA	November
LGSA Environment Awards - The Local Government Excellence in the Environment Awards are held annually. The Awards are open to all councils in NSW and aim to recognise outstanding achievements by NSW Local Government in managing and protecting the environment.	September	December
NSW Environmental Educator of the Year Award - The Australian Association for Environmental Education Award recognises individuals in NSW who show outstanding abilities to raise the level of environment awareness in the community and who provide leadership, innovation and inspiration to others thus contributing to quality environmental education. The NSW Government's Green Globe Awards - recognise and honour achievement in environmental sustainability. They are open to businesses, individuals, government and non-government organisations. There are separate categories for individuals, commercial, industry, and government.	TBA	TBA
The Stockholm Water Prize - an international award presented by the Stockholm Water Foundation annually in honour of outstanding achievements in science, engineering, technology, education or public policy related to protection of the world’s water resources.	TBA	TBA
Sydney Greenspace Awards - These awards have been developed to recognise the outstanding contribution and leadership by Local Government in the development and enhancement of Sydney Greenspace including a category for environmental responsibility and sustainability. The NSW Department of Planning in association with the Australian Institute of LandscapeArchitects (AILA) administer the awards.	September	TBA
