All large water users across greater Sydney are required to prepare Water Savings Action Plans under legislation introduced in 2005.
This encourages organisations to improve their knowledge of how and where water is being used in their operations and to identify opportunities for savings.
Savings action plans are administered under the NSW Climate Change Fund. They are required from businesses using more than 50 million litres of water a year and all local councils across greater Sydney. To 30 June 2010, 298 Water Savings Action Plans have been approved, identifying 2,329 cost effective actions estimated to save more than 8.2 billion litres of water and $22.7 million on water bills a year.
